Kanazawa's custom of blessing to get rid of bad luck

In Kanazawa, it is common to have blessed at a shrine at the end of the year before the year of bad luck to welcome the New Year. (Nationwide, it seems that people undergo exorcisms by Setsubun in the year of bad luck.) ) At that time, one layer of Kagamimochi (mirror-shaped rice cake) and two squares of sake are brought as offerings. After the purification, half of the Kagamimochi and one square of sake are left at the shrine as an offering to the shrine, and the rest is taken home and eaten by the family.
If you do not plan to distribute Kagamimochi and sake, you do not need to bring anything with you.

When a 42-year-old male has a bad luck year, he sometimes distributes rice cakes and sake to his relatives and sometimes holds a sake party. (This is thought to be a way of dispersing the bad luck and having people carry the bad luck, as well as a way of greeting people that they have reached an age where they can take on important and responsible tasks.)
